3 AI Tools Every Public Affairs Professional
Should Use
Here at Neptune Ops, we often get asked what AI tools our team uses the most. So today we highlight three of our favorite products, and explain how every public affairs professional can benefit from them.
We have no financial relationship with any of the companies who make these products, except that we pay for them like everyone else. And this is certainly not an exhaustive catalogue of our AI tech stack. But think of this as a list of AI workhorses that anyone in public affairs can use with minimal training, and that will transform your work.
Claude—For Everything We Write
Whether we're writing ads, a presentation, an email to a client, or even this newsletter, Claude is our favorite writing companion.
Unlike other AI writing tools, Claude excels at long-form content that stays on track. It understands context better, produces more polished language, and avoids the robotic tone that often plagues AI-generated writing.
Why not stick with ChatGPT for writing? You certainly could, and it's a reasonable choice. But we find that Claude’s memory retention and contextual depth allows for more natural, structured writing, making it a better fit for public affairs professionals who need persuasive, well-organized content.
Claude's maker is Anthropic, a cutting-edge AI company that has managed to stay out of the messy headlines that plague many of its AI brethren. We admire how Anthropic's leaders avoid the AI hype that other companies are prone to engaging in, and how Anthropic instead focuses on delivering solutions that are available now, instead of hazy promises about the future.
There's a free version of Claude you can try. We like the Team account, because it saves our team's content, and learns and improves with every interaction. We recently asked Claude to describe the tone of the Artificially Intelligent newsletter and here's one of the things it told us:
"Slightly subversive - There's often a subtle undermining of conventional industry wisdom or practices, but done with a light touch rather than harsh criticism."
Wooaaaah. You dear friend, have peered into our soul.
ChatGPT—The Swiss Army Knife of AI
Think of ChatGPT as R2-D2 or another superhumanly intelligent assistant working by your side all day. There is very little it cannot answer for you.
Need help with some math? It will give you the answer, but more importantly, show and explain how it got there.
It can instantly tell you virtually any piece of information you ask for, and unlike Google, it's not trying to sell you a search result. Instead, ChatGPT condenses trillions of parameters of information and gives you the best answer.
Try uploading a complicated document and ask ChatGPT to summarize it for you. You'll be amazed.
Need a summary of a bill or policy? Ask ChatGPT for a plain English summary.
ChatGPT is also great for generating quick visuals through its integrated DALL-E tool, whether it’s a mock-up for a campaign, an image for social media, or a visual for a client presentation.
There are other great AI research tools out there, but we find that ChatGPT balances depth and usability, making it the most versatile option for the type of fast, reliable insights that public affairs professionals need every day.
Like Claude, there's a free version of ChatGPT. But we recommend the Team or Plus versions for enhanced power, and access to multiple ChatGPT models that excel at different tasks.
Fireflies—The AI Notetaker That Makes Every Meeting Easier
Ever forget a date from a client call? How about a bill number? Or something your boss or client asked for? You never have to worry about that again with Fireflies, because you always have a searchable record of the call. Fireflies is a remarkable tool that records, transcribes, and organizes conversations so nothing slips through the cracks.
We like Fireflies first and foremost for its accuracy. It produces call summaries that are downright eerie. If a teammate can't make a call, they can read the summary, the full transcript, or watch or listen to the call in its entirety.
Fireflies even shows you exactly who has been assigned tasks, and can integrate with tools like Asana, Slack, and Google calendar to organize the tasks in the right place.
This is one of those tools we didn't know we needed, and now can't imagine working without it. With all of the facts, deadlines, and to-dos coming at public affairs professionals everyday, it simply makes everything easier.
